The Role of Uncle Sam - NYTimes.com
OK, listen, it’s not like I’m a blind David Brooks fanboy or anything. We disagree on things; but I think it’s a really interesting project to use historical analysis to try to understand today generally and especially to see *how* liberalism has changed over the years and may or may not be consistent with its early incarnations, etc. It’s also refreshing that he acknowledges the real good a lot of the example progressive policies did, while pointing out (rightly? wrongly?) that progessivism may have in fact abandoned itself.
